Why You Shouldn't Chase Trends

27 Aug 2026

Is it just a trend, or is it something that will still be relevant in 10 years?

Why does that matter? People love trends. They give you hope of riding the wave — catching it, maybe something falls off for you too. But a trend stays a trend, and it disappears as fast as it came. Do you even remember what an NFT was?

But do you know what good service is? Do you know why you get hungry? Do you know how to appreciate a warm home? Do you know why you love traveling?

Fundamentals, Needs

Every generation has carried them within us for thousands of years and passed them on to the next. Needs that never change. And now the question: are you building your skills on a trend, or are you building them on a need — one you know will still exist in 10 years, one that you and others benefit from?

Watch closely over the next few weeks.

Look back. Which 2–3 things have actually shifted something in you over the last 3 weeks? Write it down and focus on those things over the coming weeks to spot a lever. Eliminate attention-grabbing things that pop up — they only want your quick attention.

Eliminate Trends — Forever?

No. Not every trend has a short shelf life. Some trends stick around longer and shouldn't be ignored. Even though that's the less likely case, it pays to keep a watchful eye.

And finally, let me tell you how you can look a little way into the future.

By recognizing patterns. You spot patterns when an event happens. That's the exercise right there. Every time an event occurs (a financial crash, politics, etc.), trace your way back and look closely at which pattern led to that event.

Thanks for your time.

Cheers, Felix
